If you’re like most people, you probably don’t spend a ton of time thinking about your hairbrush. However, hair brushes can quickly accumulate dirt, oil, and pollen that gets caught in your hair, and you may end up re-introducing these nasty particles to your ‘do if you never clean your brush. Use these easy steps to clean your hairbrush. In fact, if you didn’t know, a properly cleaned brush will have an extended life, lasting upwards of three years!
Gather your supplies. To clean your brush the right way, you’ll need a few supplies. You’ll need a comb (preferably one with a pointed handle), a bowl large enough to fit the brush, a bottle of gentle shampoo, and a toothbrush.
Remove the hair. Using the comb, remove the hair from the brush. You’ll want to use a comb and not your fingers, so you don’t bend the brush’s bristles. Lift the hair up and out and throw it into the trash.
Shampoo the brush. Holding the handle of the brush, swirl the brush around in the bowl of water. Don’t soak the brush, as this can damage the brush’s wood or cushion if it has either. Remove the brush from the water and put a few drops of shampoo on the toothbrush. Use the toothbrush to scrub the bristles and body of your brush. Swirl the brush in water again and lay it out to dry overnight.
Remember to do daily maintenance. Removing your hair from your brush daily will prevent dirt from building up, leaving you with better hair and a cleaner brush.
